Cris Cyborg Officially Begins Quest for UFC Champ Ronda Rousey at Invicta FC 10 in December

Invicta FC kicked off its UFC partnership with Invicta FC 8 airing live on the UFC’s Fight Pass digital service in August.

Looking to build off of the successful event, Invicta and the UFC on Monday revealed that the all-women’s promotion would return to Fight Pass with Invicta FC 9 on Nov. 1.

That card will feature flyweight champion Barb Honchack, who hasn’t lost a fight in four years, putting her belt and eight-fight winning streak on the line against Takayo Hashi at The RiversCenter in Davenport, Iowa.

The part of the announcement that is sure to grab everyone’s attention, however, is a definitive date for Cris “Cyborg” Justino’s 135-pound debut.

She’ll step in the cage for the first as a bantamweight at Invicta FC 10 on Dec. 5, although no location has yet been set.

Cyborg has long dominated the 145-pound women’s division, earning both the Strikeforce and Invicta featherweight championships, but the UFC has made it clear that it is unwilling to create a 145-pound division just so she can fight in the Octagon. It is also unwilling to put UFC bantamweight champion Ronda Rousey in a catchweight bout, despite fans clamoring for a match-up between her and Cyborg.

December will mark the first step in Cyborg’s attempt to make the move down to 135 pounds in hopes of finally getting a shot at Rousey in the Octagon.
