The Denver Broncos won Super Bowl 50 on the basis of an elite defense. Give this team any other unit in NFL history, and they wouldn’t be able to cover up the inconsistencies that the offense had.

In other words, fans should be thankful they had the best defense ever to win the title. Because the offense almost gave away almost every victory. Why was that? It’s not rocket science.

Aside from Peyton Manning giving in to father time, the Broncos lost elite slot receiver Wes Welker and superstar tight end Julius Thomas, and they failed to find any suitable replacements. Imagine how much easier it was for opponents to focus on Emmanuel Sanders and Demaryius Thomas only? Not four lethal weapons.

Denver doesn’t have the space to add any more big-named pass-catchers, but they couldask upon 2014 second-rounder Cody Latimer to step up once and for all.

Eight career catches for 59 yards and one touchdown isn’t what the team saw in him, but he has the chance to be a huge difference-maker in 2016. They really need it from him, and his NFL career could really depend on how he performs.

Just last month, Gary Kubiak talked about how Latimer’s been playing faster, which is an encouraging sign.

Latimer wasn’t going to win reps over the Broncos big four in 2014, and it was hard for him to stand out in 2015 without much help from the quarterbacks. If he and Mark Sanchez (the likely starter,) can find chemistry right away, maybe Latimer finally breaks out the way they hoped two-and-a-half years ago.
