Clarett begins training for 2016 Olympics
Maurice Clarett's resume includes high school all-American, national champion, NFL draft choice, convicted felon, USFL running back.
And now Clarett wants to add Olympian to his resume.
The 29-year-old Clarett is taking up a new sport, rugby, with a goal of making the U.S. national team that will compete for a 2016 Olympic berth, according to profootballtalk.com.
The one-year Ohio State wonder, who challenged the NFL over its draft-eligibility policy -- and lost -- has started training for the 2016 games and has joined the Tiger Rugby Olympic Development Program in Columbus.
"He's committed to try to make Rio 2016," Tiger Rugby director Paul Holmes told Rugby Magazine. "That's Maurice's plan.
"He's ridiculous. That's all I can say," Holmes said of Clarett. "His footwork is phenomenal. He's nowhere near conditioned for rugby, but that will come. ... The stuff he's doing in the gym right now, he's just ridiculous."
Clarett spent nearly four years in prison for illegal gun possession and armed robbery.
Today, he mentors inner-city youth.
