Chiefs sign first-round pick Poe

The Kansas City Chiefs signed defensive tackle Dontari Poe, the team's first-round pick in the 2012 draft.

Poe signed a four-year contract in time to take part in the team's first workout Friday. His deal includes a fifth-year club option, as is the norm for first-round picks.

Poe was the 11th overall pick and skyrocketed up draft boards with his stunning show of athleticism at the Scouting Combine in February. At 346 pounds, the Memphis product ran a 4.94 40-yard time and bench-pressed 225 pounds 44 times, the best among the 330 players at the event.

Poe has very limited experience at nose tackle in a 3-4 defense but he's the physical prototype coach Romeo Crennel covets.
