Chiefs agree to deal with WR Avery

The SportsXchange

The Chiefs have agreed to a contract with wide receiver Donnie Avery, who resurrected his career with the Indianapolis Colts in 2012.

The Colts signed Avery to a one-year minimum contract worth $660,000 last season, and he bounced back with 60 receptions for 781 yards and three touchdowns.

Avery's chances to start in Kansas City are strong. The Chiefs will incorporate multiple-wide receiver formations under head coach Andy Reid that could feature Avery in the slot with former first-round picks Jonathan Baldwin and Dwayne Bowe outside.

Avery, the top receiver drafted in 2008, had 100 receptions and eight touchdowns in his first two seasons with the St. Louis Rams but a torn ACL in 2010 derailed his career with the Rams.

He was released in Sept. 2011 and played sparingly after signing with the Tennessee Titans in 2011.
