Carla Esparza Co-Headlines UFC 185 Against Joanna Jedrzejczyk
Newly crowned UFC women’s strawweight champion Carla Esparza puts her title on the line for the first time against No. 1 ranked Joanna Jedrzejczyk in the UFC 185 co-main event in Dallas on March 14.
The title bout was announced on Wednesday’s edition of UFC Tonight.
Esparza (10-2) became the inaugural UFC strawweight champion by defeating Rose Namajunas at the Ultimate Fighter 20 Finale on Dec. 12.
Jedrzejczyk (8-0) is a six-time Muay Thai champion. She made her UFC debut in July 2014, defeating Juliana Lima by unanimous decision. In her second outing, the 27-year-old defeated highly regarded Claudia Gadelha by split decision at UFC on Fox 13 on Dec. 13 to earn the title shot.
A lightweight title fight between champion Anthony Pettis and No. 1 ranked Rafael dos Anjos headlines UFC 185. The event will be the third time a UFC has hosted a pay-per-view in Dallas.
