Broncos to put franchise tag on LT Clady

The Denver Broncos plan to pin the franchise tag on All-Pro left tackle Ryan Clady.

Teams are allowed that designation for one player on the roster and executive vice president John Elway told the Denver Post on Thursday that the Broncos would use theirs on Clady.

Teams are allowed to begin putting one-year franchise tags on players starting Tuesday. It keeps a player on the roster during contract negotiations. If another team makes him an offer, it would cost that franchise two first-round picks.

Clady, who has made three Pro Bowls, and his representatives broke off negotiations before the start of training camp last year.

He injured his right shoulder late in the season and underwent surgery after Denver's playoff loss.

"He's playing a very high level and this is an offense that fits him," Elway told USA Today.
