Bob Newhart celebrates Cubs wins by 'flying the W’ and being awesome

Bob Newhart, the 87-year-old actor and comedian, is a lifelong Chicago Cubs fan. He was born in Oak Park, Ill., just outside of Chicago, and paid tribute to the Windy City by setting his 1972 TV comedy “The Bob Newhart Show” there. And now after years of losing, Newhart is watching the Cubs win. And you better believe he’s enjoying it.

After Tuesday night’s series-winning ninth-inning comeback against the San Francisco Giants, Newhart posted this to his Twitter account. (How cool is it that Bob Newhart has a Twitter account?!)

That’s adorable, but also: come on, Cubs! Don’t do this to Bob! He’s 87! It doesn’t seem to matter to Newhart, though. He’ll take the wins any way they come. He tweeted this after the Cubs’ Game 1 win last Friday night.

He’s even sporting a postseason hat! Bob Newhart is all in, guys.

Despite Newhart saying that he’s “too old for this,” he told the Sioux City Journal in 2003 that the Cubs have prepared him for anything.

“Being a Cub fan prepares you for life,” he said. “You’re ahead right now, but you find some way of blowing it.”

The Cubs are eight wins away from winning the World Series. They may have prepared Newhart (and millions of other Cubs fans) for what it’s like to blow it when you’re ahead, but this winning thing is a little different. From his tweets, it seems like Newhart is willing to try it.
