Best XI: Week 17

The Best XI returns after we saw a great matchup between Liverpool and Arsenal this weekend on top of some other interesting matches that included a Southampton blowout of Everton and a shootout between QPR and West Brom. Neal covers the storylines as usual in his MMM here.

Best XI

Points

An amazing 256 points this week that included a 42 point outing from Charlie Austin and four defenders all with 18 points or more. It was a huge scoring day for defenders and midfielders this week and we actually had the second highest scoring week in Best XI history(including only this season).

Cost

This week the BEST XI cost £ 92.73M*. The new price of our Best XI (if you were to try to create this team now after the price changes) is £ 125.93M. That’s a 33.2% increase in price.

*Keep in mind the cost does NOT include any substitutes and is thus 96M instead of 100M.

MVP

This week’s MVP was Charlie Austin. The striker scored a hat-trick that included the game-winning goal against West Brom. He is absolutely on fire right now and some pundits are labeling him as a must-own in fantasy right now. I wouldn’t go as far as to say he is a must-own player, but I think he is definitely an option heading into the busy holiday schedule. He had a rest day a couple of weeks ago when he was suspended and could play all three games through the holidays, making him an ideal pickup.

Formation

This week we had a 4-4-2 formation that features a lot of defenders who scored this week. When defenders score goals, they are usually in the Best XI due to their low price and ability to earn easy points from clean sheets.

We added Costel Pantilimon to our list here and he now seems like a solid option for managers. Use him in plus matchups.

Team Rankings

Manchester City are now in lone lead of the standings here but still trail Chelsea by three points. They can make those up in the next three matches when teams will certainly have to rest players, but can they win all three?
