Bears release statement about Henry Melton's arrest

Chicago Bears injured defensive tackle Henry Melton was arrested for assault with bodily injury and public intoxication in Texas.

“We are aware of the reports regarding Henry Melton,” the team said in a statement. “We are currently gathering information to learn more about the circumstances surrounding the arrest.”

In Grapevine, Texas early Sunday morning at a sports bar, Melton "became combative" with a staff member and was asked to leave the premises before the manager was allegedy hit and police were called.

Melton has blood on his face in his booking photo.

He's free on bond.

Melton tore his anterior cruciate ligament against the Pittsburgh Steelers in September.

Melton is the Bears' franchise player.
