Baseball-Major League Baseball roundup

June 24 (The Sports Xchange) - Washington Nationals pitcher Stephen Strasburg expects to make his scheduled start on Sunday, he told reporters on Friday. Strasburg missed Monday's start against the Los Angeles Dodgers due to an upper back strain. The right-hander said he was injured during a weight room workout. Strasburg said two ribs were out of alignment and later adjusted back into place. Strasburg threw a light bullpen session Friday and didn't have any setbacks, making it a near-certainty he will start the contest against the Milwaukee Brewers. The missed start on Monday prevented a marquee matchup between Strasburg and Dodgers ace Clayton Kershaw. Strasburg is 10-0 with a 2.90 ERA in 14 starts this season. - - The Boston Red Sox placed Chris Young on the disabled list one day after the outfielder strained his right hamstring. Young suffered the injury after hitting a single and making an aggressive turn around first base. He fell to the ground, was attended to by the training staff and had to be helped off the field. Boston recalled outfielder Bryce Brentz from Triple-A Pawtucket to fill the roster spot. Young is the third different Boston left fielder to get hurt this season. Brock Holt (concussion) and Blake Swihart (ankle) remain sidelined. - - Baltimore Orioles left-handed pitcher Brian Duensing's had surgery to remove bone chips from his pitching elbow, and manager Buck Showalter said the operation went fine. Duensing goes to Sarasota, Fla., in the next day or two to begin rehab work, Showalter said. - - The Tampa Bay Rays acquired outfielder Oswaldo Arcia from the Minnesota Twins in a deal that will send a player to be named later or cash considerations to Minnesota. The Twins had recently designated Arcia for assignment, but they found a trade partner in Tampa Bay. To make room on their roster, the Rays have designated right-hander Andrew Bellatti for assignment. - - New York Yankees first baseman Mark Teixeira is expected to be activated by the Yankees Saturday after missing three weeks with a right knee injury. Teixeira appeared in three rehab games with Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes Barre before having Friday off. New York pitcher CC Sabathia remains on track to make his next scheduled start Tuesday against Texas. Sabathia injured his ankle Wednesday. - - Cincinnati Reds first baseman Joey Votto returned to the lineup on Friday after missing three straight starts with a stomach virus. He struck out as a pinch hitter in the ninth inning Thursday night. (Editing by Steve Keating)
