Baseball-Major League Baseball roundup

Sept 13 (The Sports Xchange) - The New York Yankees could be without a key cog in the offense for the rest of the regular season as they push toward a spot in the postseason. An MRI on outfielder Brett Gardner revealed a Grade One strain of his left oblique and manager Joe Girardi talked about the loss of Gardner as if he will miss some significant time. "Rib cages don't heal very quickly," Girardi told USA Today on Friday. "But I think sometimes it depends on the individual, too. It's not like it's just a few days. Is it possible it could be the rest of the year? Yeah." Gardner left Thursday's win over the Baltimore Orioles with an injured rib. He is batting .273 with eight home runs and 52 RBIs. - - - Washington National pitcher Stephen Strasburg was scratched from Friday's start against the Phillies because of forearm tightness. Ross Ohlendorf started in his place. This season Strasburg has thrown 170 innings, and he has a 2.96 ERA. There are no plans to shut him down. (Editing by Gene Cherry)
