June 16 (The Sports Xchange) - Highlights of Monday's Major League Baseball games - - - Royals 11, Tigers 8 Omar Infante hit a three-run homer and an RBI single as the Kansas City Royals extended their winning streak to eight games with a victory over the Detroit Tigers. Designated hitter Billy Butler smacked a three-run double while left fielder Alex Gordon and center fielder Lorenzo Cain had three hits each for the Royals (37-32). Detroit starter Justin Verlander (6-7) gave up seven runs for the second consecutive start and permitted a season-high 12 hits in six innings. - - - Indians 4, Angels 3 Asdrubal Cabrera and Carlos Santana homered while right-hander Trevor Bauer bobbed and weaved through 6-2/3 innings as the Cleveland Indians beat the Los Angeles Angels. In his first start against the Angels (37-32), Bauer (2-3) allowed three runs on eight hits as the Indians (36-35) earned their third successive victory, all of them by one run. - - - Red Sox 1, Twins 0 Rubby De La Rosa pitched seven innings and gave up just one hit to lead Boston to a victory over the Minnesota Twins. In just his fourth start, the 25-year-old De La Rosa won a pitcher's duel with right-hander Kevin Correia (3-8), as Boston catcher A.J. Pierzynski hit a sacrifice fly in the fifth inning for the only run of the game. Correia tossed six innings in the loss for the Twins. - - - Cardinals 6, Mets 2 The St Louis Cardinals reliever Nick Greenwood pitched 3-1/3 effective innings in his Major League debut as the Cardinals pounded out a win over the New York Mets. Greenwood retired nine successive hitters at one point and struck out three as St Louis (38-32) outfielder Allen Craig went 3-for-4 with two RBIs to lead the offense. - - - Rays 5, Orioles 4 Pinch hitter Jerry Sands hit a two-run homer in the bottom of the eighth inning to lift the Tampa Bay Rays to a victory over the Baltimore Orioles. It was Sands' first home run since September 2011, when he was with the Los Angeles Dodgers. - - - Cubs 5, Marlins 4 (13 innings) Pitcher Travis Wood hit a two-out, pinch-hit, run-scoring double in the top of the 13th inning to lead the Chicago Cubs to a win over Miami. Wood was 0-for-4 as a pinch hitter entering the game. The Marlins got a two-run homer, a single and a steal from right fielder Giancarlo Stanton. - - - Rangers 14, A's 8 First baseman Donnie Murphy hit two home runs, pacing a 16-hit attack, and the Texas Rangers powered their way to a victory over the Oakland A's. The injury-ravaged Rangers (35-35) got back to .500 and pulled to within seven games of the first-place A's (42-28) in the American League West. The Rangers beat the A's in Oakland for the fourth straight time this season, including a three-game sweep in April. - - - Dodgers 6, Rockies 1 Left fielder Matt Kemp drove in two runs and pitcher Hyun-Jin Ryu delivered a solid performance, sparking the Los Angeles Dodgers to a romp over the Colorado Rockies. Kemp, who went 2-for-5 with double, and second baseman Dee Gordon's four-hit performance helped the Dodgers (38-34) snap a five-game winning streak by the Rockies (34-36). Shortstop Hanley Ramirez, catcher A.J. Ellis and right fielder Yasiel Puig each drove in a run. Ryu (8-3) limited the Rockies to a run and three hits in six innings, while striking out six and walking one. - - - Brewers 9, Diamondbacks 3 Aramis Ramirez hit a two-out, two-run double to break a tie in the eighth inning and right fielder Ryan Braun had a two-run triple in a three-run ninth when the Milwaukee Brewers pulled away from the Arizona Diamondbacks. Gennett had his fourth home run for the National League Central-leading Brewers (42-29), who have won four of their last six. First baseman Paul Goldschmidt had two singles to extend his hitting streak to 10 games for Arizona (30-43), which has lost five of its last six. - - - Phillies 6, Braves 1 (13 innings) First baseman Ryan Howard hit a solo home run and had the game-winning RBI in the 13th inning to spark the Philadelphia Phillies to a win over the Atlanta Braves. Howard's hard-hit grounder was misplayed by Atlanta first baseman Freddie Freeman and allowed center fielder Ben Revere to score the go-ahead run in the top of the 13th. The Phillies (30-38) tacked on four more runs and improved their record to 5-4 in extra-inning games. With the loss, the Braves fell to 36-33. - - - Mariners 5, Padres 1 Kyle Seager hit a three-run home run in the first inning to stay hot and the Seattle Mariners defeated the San Diego Padres. Seager had gone 4-for-4 with three RBIs the previous day for the Mariners (36-34). Seattle also got a strong outing from former Padres pitcher Chris Young who pitched six shutout innings.
