(Adds late game) May 1 (The Sports Xchange) - Highlights of Friday's Major League baseball games: - - - Yankees 3, Red Sox 2 Alex Rodriguez tied Willie Mays for fourth on the all-time home run list, hitting his 660th career big blast in the eighth inning to give the Yankees a win over the Red Sox. The landmark strike was the first career pinch-hit home run for the Yankees infielder. New York (14-9) won for the fourth time in its last five games and handed Boston (12-11) a first series-opening loss of the season after winning seven in a row going into Friday's game. - - - Cardinals 2, Pirates 1 (10 innings) Matt Adams hit a bases-loaded RBI single in the bottom of the 10th inning to lift St Louis to a win over the Pittsburgh Pirates. The Cardinals improved their Major League-best record to 16-6 while the Pirates (12-11) fell to 4-3 on their nine-game road trip. - - - Royals 4, Tigers 1 Chris Young threw five no-hit innings and designated hitter Kendrys Morales drove in three runs as the Kansas City Royals defeated the Detroit Tigers. Morales was instrumental in helping the Royals improve to 16-7 as the Tigers (15-9) failed to get a hit until the eighth inning. - - - Mets 4, Nationals 0 Matt Harvey threw seven shutout innings to win for the fifth time in as many starts as the New York Mets snapped a three-game losing streak with a victory over the Washington Nationals. Michael Cuddyer hit a solo homer in the fourth for the Mets (16-8) and third baseman Daniel Murphy laced a three-run double in the eighth. Center fielder Juan Lagares had two hits. The Nationals (10-14) had their three-game winning streak snapped. - - - Astros 4, Mariners 3 Five relievers combined for five innings of quality work and the Houston Astros bashed three home runs in a 4-3 victory over the Seattle Mariners at Minute Maid Park. The Astros (16-7) extended their winning streak to eight games thanks in large part to the collaborative effort of right-handers Josh Fields (1-0), Pat Neshek, Chad Qualls and Luke Gregerson and lefty Kevin Chapman. - - - Cubs 1, Brewers 0 Jon Lester found his form with seven shutout innings as the Chicago Cubs beat the Milwaukee Brewers. Lester (1-2) allowed three hits and struck out four to collect his first win for the Cubs (13-8), who got a home run from rookie second baseman Addison Russell, the first of his career. - - - Rays 2, Orioles 0 Alex Colome threw five shutout innings in his first start of the season to lift the Tampa Bay Rays to a win against the Baltimore Orioles. Evan Longoria and James Loney had the RBIs for the Rays (13-10), who played the game in Tampa because of the unrest in Baltimore. - - - Braves 4, Reds 3 Mike Foltynewicz won his first Major League start, helping his own cause by driving in two runs to lift the Atlanta Braves to a win over the Cincinnati Reds. Foltynewicz (1-0), acquired in an off-season trade, allowed three runs in five innings in his first assignment for Atlanta (11-12). - - - Marlins 4, Phillies 3 Marcell Ozuna hit a walk-off double to lead the Miami Marlins past the Philadelphia Phillies. Ozuna went 4-for-4 with three doubles. The Marlins (11-12) have won eight of their past nine games while Philadelphia (8-16) has lost four games in a row. - - - Indians 9, Blue Jays 4 The Cleveland Indians belted three home runs and right-hander Carlos Carrasco pitched six solid innings to fuel a victory over the Toronto Blue Jays. Jason Kipnis, left fielder Michael Brantley and catcher Brett Hayes homered as Cleveland (8-14) registered a rare victory over a left-hander. Toronto fell to 11-13. - - - Twins 1, White Sox 0 Kyle Gibson pitched eight shutout innings, leading the Minnesota Twins to a win against the Chicago White Sox. Minnesota (11-12) scored in the fifth inning on a wild pitch from Chicago pitcher Jose Quintana. - - - Athletics 7, Rangers 5 The Oakland A's erased a five-run deficit by scoring seven runs in the eighth inning to beat the Texas Rangers. Mark Canha homered and singled in a run during the rally for the Athletics (10-14). - - - Dodgers 8, Diamondbacks 0 Joc Pederson hit the first grand slam of his Major League career and right-hander Carlos Frias threw 5 1/3 shutout innings to lead the Los Angeles Dodgers to an 8-0 rout of the Arizona Diamondbacks. Andre Ethier went 2-for-3, hit a home run and scored two runs while third baseman Justin Turner added a home run for Los Angeles (14-8).
