Astros fire manager Brad Mills, two coaches

The Houston Astros have fired manager Brad Mills, general manager Jeff Luhnow announced late Saturday. Hitting coach Mike Barnett and first base coach Bobby Meacham also were relieved of their duties.

The Astros will introduce the interim manager and staff Sunday morning, the team announced.

The firing is an about-face from comments Luhnow made last month, when he said he would not make a decision on Mills until after the season.

"We haven't talked about next year at all," Luhnow told Ken Rosenthal of FOX Sports. "I've told everyone we're going to wait. I'm not even thinking about it at this point. Brad has done a good job. We get along well. There is no reason to make a change. At the end of the year is when I'm going to spend time looking at all aspects of the operation. But I'm not spending time on it right now."

At that point, the Astros were 32-51. A 12-4 loss to Arizona on Saturday made them 39-82, meaning they had gone 7-31 since Luhnow's declaration that he would wait until after the season.
