Angels' Wilson faces elbow surgery
Los Angeles Angels pitcher C.J. Wilson will undergo offseason arthroscopic surgery to remove bone spurs from his left elbow.
Wilson said after his final start of the season on Monday night in Seattle that the elbow had bothered him for the past few months.
"I tried to make a million adjustments to get around it, to the point where now I'm standing on the first-base side, trying to get an angle because I can't throw sinkers anymore because my arm doesn't work right," Wilson told MLB.com. "But you're paid to go out there and play."
Wilson, 31, hopes to have the surgery soon. He said he expects to be recovered in time for spring training next February.
Wilson had a similar problem while pitching as a reliever with the Texas Rangers in 2008 and missed the final two months of the season.
"I bounced back pretty well the last couple of years after that," Wilson said, "so I'm looking at that with a lot of optimism."
Wilson won his last outing Monday to finish with a 13-10 record and a 3.83 ERA after going 9-5 with a 2.43 ERA in his first 18 starts. He has made the All-Star team the past two seasons.
