It’s only a week into the 2017 MLB season and the Los Angeles Angels already have a strong case for comeback of the year.

The Angels shocked the Mariners, 10-9, in walk-off fashion after going down 8-1 in the seventh inning.

This should’ve been a game remembered for Robinson Cano’s five RBIs. Instead, Los Angeles mounted one of the wildest wins in the last 30 years.

After scoring two runs in the bottom of the seventh, the Angels went down in order in the eighth before turning to Albert Pujols to get them started in the final frame.

Pujols drilled the first pitch he saw over the wall to make in 9-4. Two more LA batters would get on base leading to a Danny Espinosa groundout RBI.

Martin Maldonado struck out on a 3-2 count, so with one out left — and the Angels down 9-5 — it seemed like the rally would come up way short.

Then Yunel Escobar doubled to drive in two more runs. Followed by a Kole Calhoun walk.

Mike Trout descended on the batters box with two on, two out and his team trailing 9-7 in the bottom of the 9th. The storybook moment wrote itself.

Or at least it did until Trout took four straight balls to load the bases for Albert Pujols, who promptly turned on a 0-1 fastball and roped it into right field to score two more.

Tie game.

And with that, Cliff Pennington came up and delivered a first pitch line drive back to right field that scored Trout for the game-winning run.

It doesn’t take much more than that to realize just how absurd of a comeback this was, but here are a few more stats for your consideration:

The loss officially goes to Edwin Diaz but this was a total team collapse for Seattle.
