Amanda Nunes Pulled from UFC on FOX 11 to Fight Former Strikeforce Champ

Amanda Nunes has been pulled from her fight at UFC on FOX 11, but she won’t be sitting idle. Nunes is stepping in for an injured Shayna Baszler to face Sarah Kaufman at The Ultimate Fighter Nations Finale.

UFC officials announced the change on Thursday.

Nunes had been scheduled to fight Alexis Dufresne on the April 19 card on FOX, but that was before Baszler suffered an undisclosed injury and fell out of the Kaufman bout.

Kaufman (16-2, 1 NC) comes into fight with her last outing being ruled a no-contest due to her opponent, Jessica Eye, testing positive for a prohibited substance. A former Strikeforce women’s bantamweight champion, Kaufman holds notable wins over fellow UFC fighters Liz Carmouche and Alexis Davis.

Nunes (9-3) has been on a roll since entering the Octagon late last year. She has TKO stoppages over Sheila Gaff and Germaine de Randamie. The fight against the former Strikeforce champion at the TUF Nations Finale, however, will mark his biggest opportunity to date under the UFC banner.

The TUF Nations Finale takes place on April 16 at the Colisée Pepsi in Quebec City, Quebec, Canada. A middleweight non-title tilt between Michael Bisping and Tim Kennedy headlines the card.
