Adrian Peterson faces tough test vs. Rams

Vikings running back Adrian Peterson is a beast, and any type of Fantasy analysis will confirm that as such. But how good has he been in Week 1 throughout his career?

Peterson has taken part in Week 1 seven times in his career, and during that stretch, he's never failed to score double-digit Fantasy points in standard leagues. Peterson has averaged 19 carries for 106.9 rushing yards and 1.9 receptions for 18.6 receiving yards in Week 1 competition while scoring 10 times. That performance would put him on this pace over a 16-game season: 306 carries, 1,709 rushing yards, 30 receiptions, 297 receiving yards and 23 TDs. Pretty stellar, right?

However, Peterson may not have ever faced a Week 1 test as tough as this Rams defense. The front four continues to get better, with highly regarded defensive tackle Aaron Donald joining Michael Brockers, Chris Long and Robert Quinn to give offensive lines fits. The Rams defense already posted the third-best rush DVOA in the league last year, per Football Outsiders. How much better will they be this year?

Fortunately, running backs don't come much more bust proof than Peterson. His CBSSports.com Fantasy expert rankings reflects that, as both experts keep him in the top five despite the tough matchup. Another big Week 1 game against this defense could put Peterson on track for another MVP-level season.
