76ers offer Brown coaching job

The Philadelphia 76ers offered Brett Brown their head coaching job and the two parties are in contract negotiations, Yahoo!Sports reported Friday.

Brown has been an assistant coach with the San Antonio Spurs for the past seven years. He was the Spurs director of player development from 2002-06.

Brown was expected to be promoted to lead assistant after Mike Budenholzer left to coach the Atlanta Hawks earlier this summer.

David Vanterpool, Michael Curry, Jay Larranaga, Adrian Griffin and Kenny Atkinson were other candidates for the 76ers job.

Philadelphia is in rebuilding mode after deciding not to retain Doug Collins. The 76ers finished 34-48 last season.
