The San Diego Chargers franchise announced the dates for their upcoming Training Camp sessions Friday July 22nd. Fans are hoping that things will turn around for the franchise this season.

After failing to make the Playoffs and finishing last in the AFC West in 2015, certainly the Chargers aren’t expecting to be at the bottom of the totem pole at the conclusion of the 2016 NFL season. But technically for that matter, neither is the rest of the league. Entering into training camp they’ll need to implement new ways to help spark a more balanced offensive attack. This means they need to evaluate the effectiveness of their offensive line and emphasize of run-block patterns to help them in the rushing attack. With the Raiders, Chiefs and Broncos all working steady to sustain themselves, conquering the AFC West in 2016 will be no easy feat

Note, QB Phillip Rivers and TE Antonio Gates are at the ladder stages of their careers. This means that pending their retirement in the next few seasons, the Chargers are hoping that they have a few worthy investments materializing. Head Coach Mike McCoy may just be sitting on the hot seat if he fails to have some glimpse of success this year. Below are the two players that should bring a hefty load of contribution to San Diego. Well at least they are expected to.

1. Melvin Gordon

Two words still cause San Diego Chargers fans skepticism going into this upcoming season, “Melvin Gordon.” Now undoubtedly the entire blame for the Chargers rushing debacle wasn’t just on the back of Gordon, but there are countless of plays where he just seemed extremely unimpressive, never able to allude defenders, never making anybody miss, very seldom 20 yard sprints on outside runs, just for the most part lack luster. I elaborated on his 2015 season in my “Road to Redemption” article earlier this summer and he will definitely be a focal point for both fans and administration going into 2016. Heading into his sophomore year he just ought to have the self-motivation to redeem himself.
