Atlanta's a good, good team. Jamal makes them dangerous. Boston may well finish behind Cleveland, Atlanta, and Orlando this season. I'll be happy to see less screaming Ticket and less Pierce in the playoffs.

That pic of Smoove towering above right there says it all...I hope Marvin gets inspired from his teammates and steps it up..If that happens, Hawks are definitely contenders..

ATL!!!!! Do that thang.. About time they start playing up to the talent that is on the team. This team is better than people give the credit for. Cav's and Lebron are overrated.

Nice to see the Cavs finally crack the top 10. Why are they directly behind two teams they beat on the road last week (I'm looking at you, Miami and Orlando)?

Cavs should get higher with shagwell o'not out for a while and gat back to their style of play that gave them the most wins last year! magic do not look like they are going to go very far by seasons end. also, watch out for houston. they are a better faster team without yao and tracy!

Swap the Cavs and Portland and you are on point.
All the teams on the list could take the Chesse Enchilada this year at least at the moment.

This isnt football where you only have 16 games... there are 70 more games to play, dont drink the koolaid yet folks. ATL like every year will falter as the season progresses and this "ranking" will look foolish... as most of "professional rankings" go. The only ranking that people care about is in the win loss column and at the halfway point is where you can see how good a team is not 10 games in.

#17 - you would not be saying that if your team jumped from 7 to 1.

atlanta hawks = 9-2. tied for best record in the nba. they are on multiple power rankings across the web today and i say they deserve it.
they are unstoppable at home. josh smith is playing at the highest level in his career. joe is playing like a stud. al horford is bringin the defensive presence, and jamal crawford is accepting his role and wants to win the 6th man of the year award averaging almost 18 ppg.
for all you doubters, the hawks will continue to prove you wrong because they will be a top 3 team in the eastern conference this year, its not all about boston, orlando and cavs. The atlanta hawks have fully arrived and people better give them credit before they regret it and look like tools.

It seems you lose even more creditability every time you do one of your power rankings.
How can you have the Cavs ranked behind the Heat and the Magic when the Cavs beat both of those teams on the road last week?
Their records are close enough to discount. Come on Skeets, get your head on straight, I used to enjoy reading your blog.

If the Mavs use Barea & Bobaeauxyz? They really don't need Kidd. Trade him to Orlando ( now that nelson is out 6 weeks) for Gortat. Hit them while they are hurting.
If Dallas could do that trade, they could be the 4th best team. And Dirk can battle Nash for the MVP!

I usually don't complain about power rankings because they are so fluid and inconsequential... but I don't understand how anyone can put the Cavs behind Magic and Heat after they beat both teams in a back-to-back, and have the same record as them.
The Cavs are 7-1 since their opening losses to Bos and Tor. They are hottest team in the league right now alongside ATL and PHX.

I feel like the Hawks at number 1 will be a laugh and a joke come all star break. They nearly, basically, shoulda, wanted to, lose to the Blazers at home finishing up their 5 game road trip, without Travis and Batum. Sure, they're a powerhouse.

how did the Celtics move up after losing two in a row?
and I would also reiterate how the Cavs are below teams they have beaten on the road and deserve a higher spot.
