D-backs place RHP Miller on DL; Greinke added to All-Star roster

The Arizona Diamondbacks placed pitchers Shelby Miller (right elbow inflammation) and T.J. McFarland (left neck strain) on the 10-day disabled list Thursday.

In corresponding moves, the Diamondbacks recalled right-handers Matt Koch and Silvino Bracho from Triple-A Reno.

The right-handed Miller and left-handed McFarland both pitched Wednesday night at Colorado in a 19-2 loss, but didn't last long.

Miller started the game and pitched just one inning, giving up five runs on four hits and two walks, before being removed due to right elbow tightness. The 27-year-old had Tommy John surgery in May 2017 and was activated off the disabled on June 25.

Miller is 0-4 with an 11.40 ERA in four starts this season.

McFarland, 29, was removed from Wednesday's game after getting just one out in the third inning. On the year, he is 2-1 with one save and a 1.81 ERA in 34 games.

Koch and Bracho both have pitched for the Diamondbacks this season. With Arizona, the 27-year-old Koch is 5-4 with a 4.40 ERA; Bracho, 25, is 2-0 with a 1.72 ERA.

In other Diamondbacks news, the National League has added right-hander Zack Greinke to the All-Star team, replacing Chicago Cubs lefty Jon Lester, who will pitch Sunday and opted to be ineligible for the game as a result.

This will be the fifth All-Star appearance for Greinke, 34. On the season, he is 9-5 with a 3.39 ERA and 117 strikeouts in 114 innings.
