Player Notes
Jon Lester tossed eight strong outings, allowing just one run and striking out nine, in defeating the White Sox on Thursday.

Advice: Lester cost himself in the sixth, when he was too slow to get over to first base on Adam Eaton's run-scoring infield single, and again in the seventh, when he failed to handle a pretty easy comebacker. But fielding issues aside -- and his awkward throws to first likely will lose him a game at some point -- he's been outstanding on the mound. He's currently sporting a 29/4 K/BB ratio in 29 innings and a 2.03 ERA. Next up for him is his second start of the month against the Yankees.

According to Ken Rosenthal of FOX Sports, Jon Lester turned down a four-year, $70-$80 million extension offer.

Advice: The offer, which is well below Lester's expected market value, could cost the Red Sox a chance at re-signing their ace left-hander. Rosenthal reports that Lester has cut off negotiations until the offseason, and appears as if he'll test the waters of free agency.

Jon Lester yielded two runs in 6 2/3 innings in Friday's 4-2 win over the Yankees.

Advice: Lester gave up six hits (including a solo homer to Alfonso Soriano) and a pair of walks to go along with six strikeouts. The southpaw has gone at least six innings with two or fewer runs and at least six strikeouts in all three of his starts this season, so he's giving the Red Sox and fantasy owners exactly what they need so far.
