Young fan licks baseball

You could say he's already developed a taste for the game. But when one young fan licked a baseball during Tuesday night's tilt between the Oakland A's and Minnesota Twins, it was a combination of disarming — and disgusting. The moment happened during the fifth inning when a ballboy tossed the cowhide souvenir into the stands at Target Field. The next thing you knew, the little tyke perhaps thought the white circular object in front of him was a scoop of vanilla ice cream with red sprinkles on it. That's when he licked it and promised us never to forget the memorable moment. Kids — gotta love 'em! The Twins eventually won 4-3.

Meanwhile in World Cup qualifying, the U.S. men's national team beat Mexico 2-0 and — by virtue of that victory, along with a 2-2 draw between Honduras and Panama — punched its ticked for Brazil. It's the seventh straight appearance in the World Cup for the U.S.

Finally, a Birmingham, Ala. tavern will feature a 30-inch tall piñata — affectionately dubbed Johnny Piñata — during part of its weekly Trivia Night Wednesday. Fans will be able take their licks at the party favor before Saturday's showdown between the Crimson Tide and Texas A&M in College Station.
