Philadelphia Eagles set to wear all black uniforms for first time ever Sunday

Philadelphia Eagles linebacker Connor Barwin let the cat out of the bag Monday during an interview with local radio station 94WIP. "We will be wearing all black, for the first time ever I think," Barwin said. "We've always wore black jerseys with white pants, but we will be in all black, which is going to be very cool for Sunday night."

The team's Twitter confirmed the fashion news later in the afternoon.

For the first time in their 81-year franchise history, the Eagles will be wearing all black. And they'll do it against their NFC East division rival New York Giants on Sunday Night Football. Of course, making fashion statements on the gridiron is nothing new for Eagles head coach Chip Kelly. During his gig at Oregon, different uniform combinations were the norm. And the darker shade isn't Kelly's only connection to the color. From an NFL.com piece earlier this year:

Legendary New Zealand All Blacks coach Graham Henry visited Eagles headquarters. (Team owner Jeffrey) Lurie read his book. Kelly wanted to bring him in. So football innovator and rugby icon (Henry has been knighted in his home country) spent a day talking shop. And Kelly, Lurie and everyone else finished that day better for the experience, even without much time spent on zone blocking or two-gapping or play clock management.
