Thierry Henry made the not-so-surprising announcement on his Facebook page on Tuesday that he is retiring after a distinguished 20-year career. The outpouring of respect and best wishes on social media for the all-time Arsenal great came from every corner of world soccer, from the old and the young, from friends as well as foes.

Henry, who played his final game for New York Red Bulls in the MLS Cup playoffs, got plenty of props around Major League Soccer.

Perhaps the best post came from fellow countryman and good friend Tony Parker, who celebrated his 2007 NBA Finals MVP performance with Henry in Cleveland after the San Antonio Spurs swept the Cavaliers.
