Slavia Sofia to sack player who cried when derby rivals failed to win Bulgarian title

On Saturday, Levski Sofia needed three points during their home match with bitter local rivals Slavia Sofia to lift their record 27th Bulgarian league title. Things were going swimmingly up until the 74th minute, when defender Dimitar Vezalov scored an astoundingly bad own goal (at 1.05 in the video) to bring the score level at 1-1.

Elsewhere, title rivals Ludogorets Razgrad won their match and lifted the trophy for the second consecutive year.

The Levski team were pretty devastated, but they didn't show it as much as one of the Slavia players, who reportedly started crying when their opponents lost the title. Slavia president Ventseslav Stefanov has revealed that the water works may have cost the player his job. Reuters reports:

Stefanov strongly inferred the crybaby was unused substitute midfielder Dimo Atanasov, who is thought to be a Levski fan.

Slavia's goalkeeper, meanwhile, made such a good last-minute save that he was assigned a bodyguard after the game. He and coach Velislav Vutsov were both formerly with Levski and were branded "traitors" for their part in denying their opponents their first title since 2009.

Perhaps the Levski fans should have instead cast their anger towards the defender who scored the suspiciously bad own goal that cost them the title?
