Neymar’s FIFA Puskas Award winner for best goal of 2011

Though he was up against the daunting competition of Wayne Rooney's iconic overhead kick to beat Man City and Leo Messi's cheeky flick against Arsenal in the Champions League (see both here), 19-year-old Neymar added another credit to this growing list of honors by winning the FIFA Puskas award for goal of the year.

As part of a brace for Neymar that put Santos up 3-0 before it lost 5-4 in a nutty match against Ronaldinho's Flamengo, the goal of the year displayed everything about Neymar that has Europe's biggest clubs eager to pry him away from Brazil. His speed, his ball control, his vision, his flair (and his hair, for that matter) were all a part of the lead-up to his sliding finish.

It's interesting that the goal of the year didn't result in a win for the scorer's team, but I suppose no one really cares about team results at an individual awards show.
