DTotD: Mark van Bommel earns a red card in final game of his career

During an illustrious career that has lasted 21 seasons, Mark van Bommel has brought his uniquely aggressive brand of football to PSV, Barcelona, Bayern Munich and Milan. Back with PSV this season, the 36-year-old midfielder played his 350th Eredivisie game on Sunday, which turned out to be a 3-1 loss at FC Twente.

Even though he earned a red card in the 70th minute for a nasty challenge on opposing striker Dusan Tadić, Van Bommel announced his retirement with immediate effect after the game. It was the ninth dismissal of his career.

Hence, the Dutchman successfully pulled a Zidane, and his last act in professional football was a fitting tribute to his own playing style.

This has been the Dirty Tackle of the Day: a chronicling of unfortunate events.
