Video: Ian White's face assists on Penner's goal for Oilers

Technically, center Sam Gagner(notes) was given the lone assist on this Dustin Penner(notes) goal for the Edmonton Oilers on Saturday night; what the box score won't tell you was how vital Calgary Flames defenseman Ian White's(notes) face was to this second-period tally.

Here's Penner, apparently calling "bank" off White on one of the more ghastly goals of the young season:

Ouch. Shouldn't there at least be some kind of fantasy hockey bonus points for Ian White owners on a play like this, instead of just getting the minus-1?

White was split open over the right eyebrow, but later returned to the bench for the Flames' big 5-3 victory in the Battle of Alberta. He's a tough character ... and it's not like it's the first time he's taken some rubber off the noggin.

So Dustin Penner's third of the season was an odd goal ... but would it crack TSN's list of the Top 10 goals scored off body parts?

That Wade Belak(notes) goal for the Toronto Maple Leafs off of Greg Zanon's(notes) mug might still be the gold standard.

Stick-tap to Chris Fogler for the highlight.
