NHL Three Stars: Weber gets shorty; Miller gets hot; Scrivens ends skid

No. 1. Star: Shea Weber, Nashville Predators

Scored two goals and played 25:04 in Nashville’s 3-2 win over the St. Louis Blues. Weber’s second goal (a shorthanded score) was the game-winner. The Predators took three points from a back-to-back against the Chicago Blackhawks and St. Louis.

No. 2 Star: Ryan Miller, Vancouver Canucks

Made 31 saves on 32 San Jose shots on goal in a 3-1 win over the Sharks. Miller hasn’t lost in regulation in his last four decisions, a stretch where he has had a .954 save percentage.

No. 3 Star: Ben Scrivens, Edmonton Oilers

Endured 39 Kings shots on goal, stopping 37 of them including four shootout shooters a 3-2 win over the defending Stanley Cup champs. The win broke a nine-game Oilers losing streak, and made Todd Nelson 1-0-0 as the 'sort of' head coach of the team. 

Honorable Mention: Predators forward Olli Jokinen notched two assists. Teammate Paul Gaustad had one and was a plus-3 … Nashville goaltender Pekka Rinne picked up his NHL-leading 24th win of the season … Blues forward David Backes picked up two assists in the loss … Montreal’s Dustin Tokarski made 36 saves on 37 Florida shots on goal in a shootout victory over the Panthers … Florida’s Aaron Ekblad picked up one assist in 22:27 of action … Kings defenseman Drew Doughty scored a goal in 31:59 of action … Edmonton’s Ryan Nugent-Hopkins scored a goal … David Perron scored the shootout winner… Daniel and Henrik Sedin each picked up an assist in Vancouver’s win.

Did You Know?: Joe Thornton scored on a penalty shot on the five-year anniversary of the last San Jose penalty shot goal, which was also scored by Thornton.

 

Dishonorable Mention: The Blues allowed 47 shots on goal on Brian Elliott who made his first start since suffering a knee injury on Nov. 25 …  San Jose’s Marc-Edouard Vlasic, Matt Nieto and Brent Burns were each a minus-2 … Kings defenseman Matt Greene was a minus-2 … Sharks goaltender Alex Stalock allowed three goals on 21 Vancouver shots on goal.
