NHL Three Stars: Toews conquers Islanders; history for Elliott

No. 1 Star: Jonathan Toews, Chicago Blackhawks 

The captain posted a 4-point game, with two goals and two assists, in the Blackhawks’ 4-1 win over the New York Islanders.

No. 2 Star: Anders Lindback, Buffalo Sabres

The Sabres goalie made 44 saves to win his first game as a Sabre, 2-1 in the shootout against the Boston Bruins. Tyler Ennis had the lone shootout goal. Boston outshot Buffalo 14-3 in the first period and 7-3 in the overtime.

No. 3 Star: Brian Elliott, St. Louis Blues

Elliott made 25 saves and Alex Steen scored two goals in the Blues’ 4-0 win over the Calgary Flames. It was shutout No. 21 in Elliott’s career with the Blues, breaking Jaroslav Halak’s franchise record.

Honorable Mention: Andrew Hammond tied an NHL record and Kyle Turris had an amazing pass to Mark Stone for the game-winner in the Ottawa Senators’ 2-1 overtime win at the Carolina Hurricanes. … Mark Scheifele and Blake Wheeler had 3-point nights as the Winnipeg Jets topped the San Jose Sharks, 5-2. Joe Pavelski had two goals in the loss. Ondrej Pavelec had 38 saves in the win. … Alex Burrows had two goals and Radim Vrbata added No. 26 into an empty net as the Vancouver Canucks sunk the Philadelphia Flyers, 4-1. Cory Schneider made 35 saves as the New Jersey Devils shut down the Pittsburgh Penguins, 2-0. … P.K. Subban had the game-winner for the Montreal Canadiens in their 3-2 win over the Florida Panthers, with all five goals cored in 11:06 during the second period. …  Devan Dubnyk does it again, winning in his 28th straight start for the Minnesota Wild in their 3-2 overtime victory over the spiraling Nashville Predators. Matt Dumba had the game-winner, and Charlie Coyle scored two goals.
