Mike Milbury, Jeremy Roenick battle over Nystrom hit; JR calls Mad Mike ‘soft’ (VIDEO)

Eric Nystrom's hit on Kris Letang sparked debate around the hockey world on Wednesday night, as some felt the Dallas Stars forward's check was suspension-worthy and others felt he either didn't hit Letang in the head or that Letang put himself in a prone position.

Mike Milbury of NBC Sports Network? Put him down in the "suspend Nystrom" column.

Breaking sports news video. MLB, NFL, NBA, NHL highlights and more.

Later in the studio show, Jeremy Roenick joined Milbury and Keith Jones for a discussion on head shots and … well, things got a little heated. Make sure you stay until the final minute between Roenick and Milbury, who he called "soft" and then offered to buy a Shirley Temple, as Milbury vowed to never have Roenick back on the postgame show.

Yes, this is what passes for hockey talk in U.S. television, why do you ask? Although we would like to see Dan Bylsma take Milbury's advice and offer advice to Pierre McGuire on where to stick his mic ...

Hey, remember when Milbury told Roenick to suck it up when he cried after the 2010 Stanley Cup Final? Good times ...

Wow. The stupidity of Roenick versus the arrogance of Milbury. We're lucky the world didn't get sucked into a black hole after that one.

Well, if you ever wondered if the hit was dirty or not, see what Milbury thinks and form the OPPOSITE opinion.

how mike milbury has a job in the hockey business is beyond me. He single handedly destroyed an NHL franchise with his awful management. And he couldnt break down a hockey play made at the mite level. Complete moron. Mike if you are going to argue that much about a specific play make sure you actually see what happens. Letang's head was not touched.

The chin is not part of the head?

Same can be said about Doug MacLean, and yet he still works in TV.

this is hockey we're talking about not Hollywood. I wish Hockey players would quit embellishing hits. Example Goalies get hit and they throw their arms in the air and jump in the air as they were hit with a car at 50 mile an hour. Start playing hockey instead and leave the acting to Hollywood.

They are both at fault with this hit. Letang put himself in this position and Nystrom decided to hit instead of playing the puck. Bad choices by both players. Hate to see Letang out.

JR is absolutely correct on this case. He hit letang in the chest, and his head snapped back.

So you think Letang was faking it when he was holding his face?
      • BFarva 2 months ago
It seemed like the majority of the impact was to Letang's right shoulder but Nystrom did catch Letang's chin before hitting his shoulder, so the head was the principal poitn of impact.

Sure he could have been faking it. With the new rules about "targetting the head" if you can sell the headshot it'll put you on the PP longer!

If it wasn't a head hit, then why did Letang have a mark on his chin? Last time I checked, my chin was on my head. I don't know about Roenick's though. (Of course I'm biased, I absolutely loathe Roenick)

WTF is with the video? Someone uses their digital camera to record their TV and it's considered good enough quality to post?

Mike Milbury only believes in heavy hits on ten-year olds.

It's all about theater and ratings. Once the 'free' media gets hold of the show, its gold.

Lets be honest here....Milbury is probably a lil upset he was forgotten about, to take over Wilsons job

      Suspend him!

The ruling is about as clear as the rest of the rules in the NHL and the lawyers like it that way. Icing, headshots, faceoffs, obstruction, goaltender interference, roughing, holding the stick, ...I could go on and on...its all open to interpretation by the refs. You have all seen it happen mid game! The refs put away the whistle so as to 'even out the play?' Why all the sudded has the NHL gone back to allowing all the obstruction? Perhaps to give more opportunity for 'struggling' teams to take a run at a 'Bruins' like playoff experience? Just when you think you know what's going on, two teams that can actually skate, pass and score meet each other in the playoffs and then what will the ref's do? I guess it will depend on how they can even out the play...will the ref's blow or not?

Look at all body checks, nobody is playing the puck the puck first they are trying to knock the other player off the puck
