Some guy named Selanne signs tryout contract with Anaheim

Earlier today, the hot topic was when Teemu Selanne would rejoin the Anaheim Ducks. This afternoon, the Ducks provided the creative answer: Selanne signed a pro tryout agreement with the Ducks, allowing him to participate in all training camp activities including team physicals. Contract negotiations continue, but are really immaterial until the other shoe drops.

That other shoe's name is, of course, Mathieu Schneider. The defenseman cleared waivers this week, and was told by the Ducks that he's excused from the start of training camp as Anaheim attempts to trade him. The Ducks are about $3 million over the cap at the moment. You'd figure the Los Angeles Kings would still be the logical destination, but clearly the Ducks are in a poor bargaining position here, which is making this salary dump take forever. Why doesn't Brian Burke just call Lou Lamoriello and find out how to clean up this mess through injury deferments, minor league demotions or banishment to the KHL?
