We’ve all had that player on our beer league team that just can’t keep up with the rest of us. They skate like a newborn deer trying to walk, stickhandle like the puck is covered in grease and are experts at peppering the boards — not the net — with shots.
One team in Sweden, the Huddinge Hockey Veterans, had this experience recently with “Kent from Northern Sweden,” who turned out to be a hockey legend and Hall of Famer in disguise.
(Nice touch using the name Kent, as in Kent Nilsson, the man who first pulled off the move that many of us know today as “The Forsberg.”)
This should teach us all that next time some random player shows up to play for your beer league and plays poorly at the start, it just might be a hockey legend underneath the helmet. Or, maybe just someone who is really bad and is only there to help you reach the roster minimum.
