Alex Burrows blasts Alexei Emelin, hearing with the NHL on Friday

Alexandre Burrows has never been suspended. This may seem odd for a guy who plays on the edge and agitates like Burrows.

This may change soon. Burrows will have a phone hearing with the NHL for the below possibly late, high hit on Montreal defenseman Alexei Emelin in Thursday night's game.

Head shot? Late hit? It didn't look super late. And the angle makes it hard to deem that it was a head shot, though it does look like Burrows followed through with his left arm.

Emelin did return to the game, which does help Burrows' cause.

Montreal coach Michel Therrien fueled the fire to some degree to the Montreal Gazette's Dave Stubbs.

“That was a dirty hit to the head. This is something we’re trying to eliminate from our game…”

The bigger question could be, how in the world has Burrows simply never been suspended? That just seems odd.

Said Canucks President Trevor Linden to The Province's Tony Gallagher:

"People wouldn’t normally think of Alex that way, but he hasn’t had one.”
