Boone Jenner goal wiped out because of 'distinct kicking motion'

The 'distinct kicking motion' can sometimes be a goaltender's best friend. This was seen in obvious fashion in the first period of Detroit's game against Columbus.

The video, please...

Now the explanation from the league:

"At 18:18 of the first period in the Detroit Red Wings/Columbus Blue Jackets game, the Situation Room initiated a video review to further examine a play at the Detroit net. Video review determined that Columbus forward Boone Jenner kicked the puck across the Red Wings goal line. According to Rule 49.2 "A goal cannot be scored by an attacking player who uses a distinct kicking motion to propel the puck into the net." No goal Columbus."

Whether Jenner meant to kick the puck is another story, but the motion is clearly distinct and well ... kicking. The league got this one right. No goal!
