Wyoming releases photos of its new mountainous field design
When you're playing at the highest elevation of any FBS team, you should embrace your mountainous surroundings. The University of Wyoming did just that with its new field design, and now we get to judge the results.
Last month we showed you the design for the new field at War Memorial Stadium, and today we have the actual photos. Jonah Field now has the snow-capped Teton Mountains etched into the end zone and "7220 Feet" (the elevation of the playing surface) along the sidelines to remind visitors why they're suddenly having a tough time catching their breath. There's also the old-school Western font in the end zone, which seems necessary considering the scenic surroundings.
We've seen some really creative basketball floors in recent years - Oregon's forest, Florida International's beach, Central Florida's blacktop - but we haven't seen football teams get too creative...yet. Considering how these trends generally go (think alternate uniforms), fancy end zone designs could be coming to a school near you. Hopefully theirs turn out as well as the one in Laramie.
