UNLV tries the first trick play of the year with a first quarter hook and lateral (Video)

With an early lead against Minnesota on the road, UNLV decided to break out the hook and lateral.

While it got the first down, it wasn't necessarily a success.

With 2nd and 6 at the Minnesota 48, UNLV quarterback Nick Sherry threw to Davante Davis, who immediately pitched it back to Tim Cornett who was trailing Davis's hook route

One problem; UNLV ran the play to the short side of the field and Cornett was forced out of bounds not long after he caught the football. The Rebels got the first down, but it was just a gain of 13. You could see that coach Bobby Hauck wanted more from the grimace he immediately revealed on the sidelines.

But hey, props to Hauck for going for it. Keep running that more often and teams won't know what hits them when a simple route is the play call.
