Two Texas A&M players suspended from team after bar, parking lot brawl
Two starters from the Texas A&M defense have been suspended from team activities after being charged with misdemeanors related to an April fight.
Cornerback Deshazor Everett and safety Floyd Raven turned themselves in to authorities over the weekend and face charges for assault causing bodily injury and criminal mischief. Both men were released after bail was set. A statement from the A&M athletic department said both players are suspended from all team activities pending further investigation into the situation.
The alleged details of the case do not look good for Everett and Raven. Court documents state that they were part of a group of roughly a dozen people who attacked a Chevy Tahoe and its drivers at a College Station apartment complex. The incident apparently stemmed from a fight earlier in the night at a bar initiated when the two Aggies sprayed champagne into the crowd.
This excerpt from the The Eagle’s detailed story is probably most damning for Everett, the defensive back whose interception sealed A&M’s win at Alabama last season:
The arrest report states that Everett admitted to police that he and Raven were involved in the altercation at Hookah Station and that when they later saw the men from the bar pull up to Everett's complex they were going to "finish what they started at the bar."
If the players aren’t kicked off the team, A&M could easily survive a two-game suspension to both, as they open their season against Rice and Sam Houston State. That would also conveniently get both players back in time for the September 14 game against Alabama.
Last season Everett started 12 games for the Aggies, totaling 56 tackles and 2 interceptions. Raven made 16 tackles and had 1 pick.
If this follows the same script as last summer’s Aggie fisticuffs, Kevin Sumlin will write a letter that helps both players avoid missing any game action and then Everett and Raven will be co-Heisman winners come December.
