South Carolina to name practice facility after Steve Spurrier

South Carolina's indoor football practice facility will bear the name of Steve Spurrier and his wife this spring.

The university's board of trustees voted Tuesday to name the facility the Steve and Jerri Spurrier. The $14+ million facility was opened earlier in 2015 and athletic director Ray Tanner told the Spurriers on Monday the measure would be voted on the next day.

According to the State, one donor to the school wants to push to have the field at Williams-Brice Stadium named for Spurrier.

Spurrier, who retired in October, is the all-time winningest coach at South Carolina. He was 86-49 in 10+ seasons at the school and was replaced by interim coach Shawn Elliott. The school hired former Florida coach Will Muschamp as its new permanent coach and Elliott is staying on staff as the team's offensive line coach.

South Carolina's trustees also voted to approve a $50 million football operations center. The facility, which will be more than 100,000 square feet facility, will be home to the Gamecocks' "football offices, meeting rooms, weight room, training room, locker room and equipment room," the school said.
