Reports: FSU QB Sean Maguire has fractured ankle
Florida State quarterback Sean Maguire reportedly played the second half of the Peach Bowl with a fractured ankle.
According to the Tallahassee Democrat and Warchant.com, Maguire is scheduled to have surgery on the injured ankle next week and will likely miss spring practice.
Maguire was injured late in the first half of the Seminoles’ 38-24 loss to Houston in Atlanta on Dec. 31. He took a low hit on a pass attempt and was carted off the field. With his left foot heavily wrapped, Maguire returned to the field midway through the second quarter. He threw for 392 yards in the loss, but also tossed four interceptions.
Maguire split time with Everett Golson as FSU’s starting quarterback this season. Golson started the team’s first seven games, but Maguire surpassed him on the depth chart late in the year. Maguire finished the season with 1,520 yards, 11 touchdowns and six interceptions.
Maguire, who will be a senior next season, is expected to compete for the Seminoles’ starting quarterback job with redshirt sophomore J.J. Cosentino and freshmen Deondre Francois and Malik Henry. Francois redshirted this season while Henry, an early enrollee, arrived on campus last week.
FSU finished the season with a 10-3 record.
