Oregon quarterback Marcus Mariota will return in 2014

Oregon standout quarterback Marcus Mariota announced Tuesday that he will return to Oregon for the 2014 season, the school announced.

Mariota, a redshirt sophomore, was named All-Pac-12 after throwing for 3,412 yards and 30 touchdowns while also racking up 582 yards and nine touchdowns on the ground. His 3,994 yards of total offense is a single-season record at Oregon.

“It is an honor to be a student at the University of Oregon and to have the opportunity to represent our institution on the football field alongside my teammates,” said Mariota. “I look forward to earning my degree next year and to the rest of my career at this great University.”

Mariota was the 2012 Pac-12 offensive Freshman of the Year and has started all 25 games for the Ducks in the past two seasons.

Mariota was widely considered one of the top prospects for the 2014 NFL Draft, a draft stocked with quarterback talent.

The school also announced that redshirt junior center Hroniss Grasu will also return to the Ducks next season.
