Ole Miss raises over $90,000 to pay for field storming fine and goalposts
Ole Miss won't be needing to reach into school coffers to pay the fine it got from the SEC or for new goalposts.
The school was fined $50,000 by the SEC on Sunday because fans had stormed the field. Add that to the $11,000 cost of each of the two goalposts that were taken down and paraded around Oxford, Miss., and the school was looking at an over $70,000 outlay for the celebrations surrounding the Rebels' win against Alabama.
Fans have got the school covered. The Ole Miss Foundation tweeted a link Tuesday afternoon for fans to donate to the cause and as of Wednesday morning, over $90,000 has been raised.
The school set up five levels of giving for the fine and goalposts ($5, $25, $250, $500 and $1,000), and the two top levels have already been filled. (A total of $45,000.) Why could that be? Well perhaps it's because those who donate either $500 or $1,000 receive a piece of the goalposts from the victory. As SBNation noted, the school even increased the quantity of goalpost sections available at the $500 level to accommodate demand.
