Braxton Miller won’t be on the field for Ohio State this season, but coach Urban Meyer is making sure he’s not left out of the Buckeyes' 2014 campaign.

Miller, who is scheduled to have surgery on Tuesday for a torn labrum in his right throwing shoulder, has been named a team captain and will travel with the team.

"Braxton Miller was the high vote-getter," Meyer said. "He's down getting surgery. He met with the doctor, I got a text this morning that he met with Dr. Andrews today. Surgery is set for tomorrow.

"He'll be one of the 70 (on the travel roster this season) if he can go. He won't be able to go this time, but there will be times where we'll have to make that decision."

Miller suffered the season-ending injury during practice last week. An MRI revealed a torn labrum to his shoulder that had been surgically repaired in February.

Renowned physician Dr. James Andrews will perform the surgery.

It’s a great gesture by Meyer to continue to include Miller with the 2014 team. He’s been a leader for the program during his three seasons as starter and no doubt will continue to do so. Also, having him on the sidelines to provide tutelage to new starting quarterback J.T. Barrett, who will take his first collegiate snaps against Navy on Saturday, will be helpful as well.
