Illinois shows off mediocre dancing skills for charity

Tim Beckman might be learning about the Illini as he goes through his first spring season, but one thing he does know is that they can dance.

Well, some of them anyway.

The football team was named co-champions of the school's third annual Illini Jock Jams competition, which pits all of the university's sports in a variety act/talent show to raise money for local, national and international charities. This year's event raised more than $16,000. The money raised will be divided between the Daily Bread Soup Kitchen, the Special Olympics and Student Athletes Leading Social Change.

The football team did a compilation of commercials that involve dancing — the AT&T commercial with the guy flash mobbing by himself in a train station, the Sun Drop soda commercial and the Kia Soul hamster Party Rock Anthem commercial. I'll put this out there right now, this isn't the best performance ever. In fact, until the Party Rock Anthem part, it's pretty terrible. But it's funny.

Unfortunately, while the football team was named co-champions, the gymnasts won the dance-off to take the overall title. Really, the football team stood no chance. There was a gymnast who did the pommel horse on the floor. It was impressive.

Perhaps Beckman can institute a steak or porridge incentive for this competition next year.
