Eastern Michigan went outside the FBS realm for its new head coach.

The school announced the hiring of former Drake head coach Chris Creighton on Wednesday. Creighton, 44, had been at Drake for six seasons. Before coaching at Drake, he was at Division III Wabash College and NAIA's Ottawa University in Ottawa, Kansas.

Eastern Michigan coach Ron English was fired in November after a tape of a vulgar rant was released. The Eagles were 1-8 at the time of English's firing and finished the season 2-10 under interim coach Stan Parrish.

Under Creighton, Drake shared Pioneer League conference titles in 2011 and 2012. This season, the Bulldogs went 6-5.
