Doc Five: The most famous girlfriends in college football – No. 5, Sarah Savage

This offseason we will count down various topics from Monday through Friday, bringing you the top five of the important and definitely some not so important issues in college football. It's the Doc Five, every week until we will thankfully have actual games to discuss.

TOP FIVE MOST FAMOUS GIRLFRIENDS IN COLLEGE FOOTBALL

NO.5: SARAH SAVAGE (JOHNNY MANZIEL)

There was a model who was dating a high profile SEC quarterback and came into our consciousness in December.

But there were no celebrity diving shows or SI swimsuit appearances or "Inside Edition" gigs at the Super Bowl in Sarah Savage's future. Somehow, Katherine Webb stole all her thunder (and of course we'll get to Webb on the Doc Five later this week, don't worry).

One girlfriend gets ogled by Brent Musburger on national television as she watches boyfriend AJ McCarron play for Alabama in the BCS Championship Game and gains 270,000 Twitter followers as a result. The other, who happens to be Heisman Trophy winner Johnny Manziel's girlfriend, is stuck on 3,300 followers.

This doesn't seem fair at all for Savage.

Savage got some time in the sun (and on Dr. Saturday!) when she posted pictures of herself posing with Manziel and the most famous individual trophy in sports last December. Savage is a model and student at Texas A&M.

Not that being famous is all fun and games. She posted pictures on Twitter @Sarah_Savage13 of the flowers Manziel sent her on Valentine's Day ("Sweet boy" she posted with a smiley to Manziel's Twitter) but then less than two weeks later had to squash public rumors they have broken up, which has to be a pain for a couple college students.

Still, we feel like Savage shouldn't have to take a backseat to Webb while the latter is still stretching out her fame well past 15 minutes. We'll start getting the ball rolling for Savage today here on Doc Sat. We don't have the cache of Musburger, but hopefully we can get her a few more Twitter follows – that can't hurt her modeling career. Then hopefully Manziel has another big season, Musburger drools over Savage too, she lands her own SI gig and a friendship with Kareem Abdul-Jabbar on a reality show, and gets hundreds of thousands of followers (if that's what she so desires).

It's only right.
