DB Chad Clay dismissed by Georgia

UPDATE 12:15 p.m. ET June 23

The alleged offense that got Chad Clay dismissed from Georgia was a petty one.

Per the Macon Telegraph, a police incident report shows Clay is accused of stealing a pair of headphones valued at $30.

According to the incident report, a university student placed a pair of headphones down next to his phone and water bottle on the bleachers closest to the front of the court. Upon returning, the victim noticed his headphones were missing and reported them stolen.

An officer was able to identify Clay as the responsible party and got a judge to take a warrant out for his arrest for misdemeanor theft by taking. The officer contacted Clay over the phone and informed him of the warrant on Wednesday and gave him the number to the Clarke County Sheriff's Office Warrants Division so he could settle it.

A second alleged offense has gotten Chad Clay dismissed from Georgia.

The Bulldogs dismissed the early-enrollee freshman defensive back Wednesday night after he was arrested on theft charges. Clay was previously involved in a dorm incident with BB guns in April along with another player.

According to UGASports.com, Clay was arrested for "theft by taking" and "was booked into the Clarke County Jail at 6:04 p.m. ET and later released at 7:17 p.m. on a $1,500 bond."

“Unfortunately, Chad will no longer be a part of our football program” Georgia coach Kirby Smart said in a statement. “It is very disappointing, and we wish him the best in his efforts to continue his education.”

Clay and defensive tackle Julian Rochester were arrested for the BB guns in the dorm in April. The players' attorney said at the time that the two were shooting empty solo cups in their dorm room and the possession and use of the BB gun violated a rule regarding firearms on campus.

A native of Suwanee, Georgia, Clay was a three-star recruit in the class of 2016.
